Always Be Learning

“The swiftest way to triple your success is to double your investment in personal development.” — Robin Sharma

The most successful leaders are committed to lifelong learning, growth and development. And the ones who are successful in doing so all have something in common – They ALWAYS are looking for ways to get better! Knowledge and wisdom will not come seeking you out. You have to go after growth. Continuous growth leaders never stop growing because they never stop learning.

A question that I am asked frequently by developing leaders is how do we keep momentum for growth after our first 10+ years in business? While it was difficult for me to answer at first as the immature side of me was solely focused on selling for the first 5 years of that, I realized that it is our Continuous Improvement culture. Everybody on my team is rally’d behind the vision of “There has got to be a better way”. When that happens, it’s like a freight train that cannot be stopped!

Here is where we have to be careful though. The higher you climb in your leadership, the more difficult it is to remain driven to improve. Many leaders struggle with this, and in turn, lose momentum and even stop setting goals — Because they feel like they have “made it”!

The most common reasons leaders think they can stop growing is Pride and insecurity. Ironically, the 2 go hand in hand with each other. It is almost impossible to have success behind an insecure leader. And sadly, so many leaders refrain from growing because of their ego. It’s as if they are afraid to appear like they still have room to learn and grow! I’m sure many of you have heard the expression ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That phrase definitely was not coined by someone dedicated to personal growth!

Remember this.. No idea is perfect, no matter how good it is, and ideas can always be improved. Keep asking yourself and your Team if there is a better way to do things. Do this every single day – And don’t stop. This will energize, challenge, and inspire those around you who are hungry to learn as well! When you commit yourself to a Continuous Growth culture and mindset, It will take your leadership to the next level. Choose your circle of influence wisely. When you are in a position of influence, Most people will start to tell you want they think you want to hear, and not tell you what you need to hear. Sometimes the truth can hurt, but that is where the growth happens.
