The 4th of July is not only about celebrating freedom, but it’s also a time to honor the responsibility that comes with it.
As leaders, we all have something that drives us, something bigger than ourselves. The best leaders are fueled by a “why” that motivates them beyond just personal ambition. The larger that “why” grows, the more responsibility we take on. And with that responsibility, our leadership grows, too.
When I first started Atlas, my “why” was simple. It was just to make sure I could feed my family. Every decision, every action was driven by that one goal – survival and stability.
But as Atlas grew, my “why” expanded. It wasn’t just about providing for my own family anymore. It became about the families of those under my charge, the people who trusted me with their livelihoods. Their well-being and success became intertwined with mine. As our team grew, so did the weight of responsibility that came with that.
As we celebrate Independence Day this week, I hope you take a moment to reflect on your own “why.” The journey of leadership is a long one, and it’s easy to lose sight of why we do what we do. I hope you find time to connect with what truly matters – the people you serve and the purpose that drives you.
The 4th of July is not only about celebrating freedom, but it’s also a time to honor the responsibility that comes with it. It’s a reminder of the hard work and sacrifices that have paved the way for the opportunities we have today. As leaders, we can reflect on the freedoms we’re fortunate to enjoy, and how we can use that privilege to inspire and serve others.
Wishing you a restful and reflective holiday, surrounded by those who remind you of your “why.”
Your leadership amigo,
Sam Gembel
